The positive effects of drinking water on your skin

With the ongoing Coronavirus situation, looking after yourself; your well being as well as your body is important. Research shows that your skin is the last part of the human body to gain the benefits of water, so this means you need to drink plenty. Ideally you should be drink around 8 to 10 full glasses of water every day, but there is no official recommended fixed amount.

Dehydration.

When you are dehydrated, the skin becomes dry. Consistent dehydration means that the skin could be permanently damaged. This also causes skin puffiness. It’s the human body’s way of fighting dehydration by retaining water.

Water actually increases the skins elasticity. This simply means the ability of the skin stretching and returning to it’s original shape. Loss of this ability is known as elastosis, resulting in saggy, crinkled or leathery skin. Rapid causes of elastosis also include sun bed use, sun exposure, bad diet, drinking excessively, etc.

Flushing toxins.

Therefore, drinking more water helps to reduces the increase of wrinkles and helps to flush toxins from the body. Increased water intake also increases blood flow to the skin. This helps your skin complexion by shrinking pores. When sweating, for example, the body is flushing out toxins, but always ensure you rehydrate afterwards which will give a you a fresh look.

Please note that it’s not recommended to drink large quantities of water in one go, but glasses of water on a regular intervals.

Remembering to drink water.

So, how do you remember to keep drinking? Why not download an app which reminds you on your phone or smart watch. No doubt after a few days it will become second nature. Also, have a water bottle on your desk at all times. Yes, you’ll pass urine much more, but this is a way of flushing toxins from your body as well. Much lighter urine means you have less bacteria in your body.

Adding lemon or lime to water is also highly recommended as lemon, for example, has vitamins such as B-complex, C, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, fibre, potassium.
