April is Rosacea Awareness Month, designated by The National Rosacea Society.
With 1 in 10 in the UK suffering from this chronic condition, its time to educate our patients on how to manage, treat and make them as comfortable as possible in their own skin. So lets break it down and safely treat Rosacea!
Although rosacea can affect all segments of the population and all skin types, individuals with fair skin who tend to flush or blush easily are believed to be at greatest risk. The disorder is more frequently diagnosed in women, but tends to be more severe in men.
The redness in rosacea, often aggravated by flushing, may cause small blood vessels in the face to dilate permanently and become more visible through the skin, appearing like tiny red lines, called telangiectasias. Continual or repeated episodes of flushing and blushing may promote inflammation, causing small red bumps, or papules, that often resemble teenage acne. Acne rosacea and adult acne are other names for rosacea. One of the most unpleasant aspects of rosacea is the overgrowth of dermal tissues producing a “phymatous” change in the skin. This appears as a thickening and permanent swelling of the facial tissues. A bulbous nose called rhinophyma is an example of this change.
There are a variety of triggers that may make rosacea worse. These include alcohol, exercise, high and low temperatures, hot drinks, spicy foods and stress. Rosacea can also be sun sensitive.

The Perfecting Peel
Is formulated as a unique peeling option for all skin types including sensitive and rosacea. The gentle AHA solution will improve surface texture, fine lines and uneven skintone.
The main ingredients of the peel are;
20% Mandelic Acid- breaking down the desmosomes between cells to allow for easier exfoliation of the dead skin cells and proven to treat hyperpigmentation.
10% Lactic Acid- aids skin hydration.
Indian Gooseberry- a botanical with proven reduction to discoluration and aging.
Silymarin- this powerful antioxidant derived from milkthistle is what mades the perfecting peel appropriate for our rosacea and sensitive patients. It has been proven to inhibit the VEGF or (vascular endothelial growth factor) which is a signalling protein produced by cells that stimulates the formation of blood vessels. Also reducing the volume of white blood cells to allow for better microcirculation and less pressure to capillary walls.
Patients can have the perfecting peel every 4-6 weeks, following appropriate consultation.
Retinol for Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skins usually avoid retinoids, however to help strengthen the skins barrier, this gentle retinol solution is specifically formulated for sensitive skin to compact the epidermis and reduce redness without irritation, whilst also fighting ageing.
The patented Omnisome delivery system allows a slow release of the active ingredients deep into the epidermis, resulting in a more effective and less reactive introduction of retinol into the skin.
0.1% Retinol- improves skin texture, promoting a clear complexion and even skin tone.
Inflashield- a patented cosmetic ingredient to reduce the sub-clinical inflammation.
Ceramide NP- supports the renewal of the skins natural protective laye, locking in moisture and protecting from external offenders.
Introduce into the skin regime of an evening only and apply every third night, increase frequency of use as desired. SPF must be worn in the daytime whilst treating the skin with retinol.
