Juvéderm® ULTRA is a widely used and highly recommended hyaluronic dermal filler which contains lidocain (is a local anaesthetic, sometimes referred to as lignocaine within the UK). Juvederm is supplied by Allergan; the makers of Botox® Treatments, as well as various other products.
Juvéderm® ULTRA contains hyaluronic acid with of 0.3% lidocaine. This is a local anaesthetic to provide more comfort. At Now Cosmetic, we also provide local numbing cream if needed. No allergy test is needed for Juvéderm®. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance within the human body and is eventually completely broken down within the skin.
According to data from Allergan, a study on 60 women, which compared the injection comfort of Juvéderm® ULTRA 3 and Surgiderm 30 XP, 81% who received Juvéderm® ULTRA felt only slight or no discomfort at all.
The product is exceptionally safe, but it is not to be used with people with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine. Also, individuals with severe allergies including a history of anaphylaxis. Juvéderm® should not be administered directly after laser treatment, deep chemical peeling, dermabrasion or in the case of superficial chemical peeling if there is a severe inflammatory reaction.
Side effects include: Transient erythema (redness), swelling, pain, itching, discolouration or tenderness at the implant site.

According to Allergan, Juvéderm® has ‘enhanced stability and resistance to degradation by heat and the body’s metabolism, providing a duration of the product up to 12 months.’
